Class A motorhomes built on chassis manufactured by Freightliner Custom Chassis Corp. (FCCC), Gaffney, S.C., captured the largest share of the diesel pusher market in 2004, according to Statistical Surveys Inc., Grand Rapids, Mich.
FCCC, a subsidiary of DaimlerChrysler AG, garnered 55.8% of the Class A diesel chassis market, with Monaco Coach Corp.’s proprietary Roadmaster chassis ranking in the No. 2 position with 25.4%. Spartan Motors Inc., Charlotte, Mich., the only other company with a double-digit market share, ranked third with 11.7%.
“We have become the industry leader by listening to our customers and developing new products and product enhancements that continually improve the RV lifestyle,” said FCCC president Jack Conlan.
Workhorse Custom Chassis LLC, Highland Park, Ill., was the No. 1 builder of gasoline chassis in 2004 with 64% of the market, followed by Ford Motor Co. with 35.6%.
In the Class C cutaway chassis segment, Ford Motor Co. led with 83.1% of the market, followed by General Motors Corp.’s Chevrolet Division with 11.3%.
