Columbia Pictures is marketing the upcoming movie “RV” starring Robin Williams with a seven-week tour showcasing the green and white motorhome used in the film.
According to a press release, the coach will be equipped with a plasma TV that will show the trailer and behind-the-scenes footage during the series of cross-country stops.
The motorhome embarked on the tour Thursday (March 9) from Culver City, Calif., home of Sony Pictures Entertainment, and will conclude the road trip in New York City.
Sony is partnering with national dealer network FreedomRoads LLC and RV accessories retailer Camping World Inc., who are sponsoring a “Fantasy Family” vacation sweepstakes and will host the motorhome at around 20 locations along the route.
Highlights of the road trip include appearances at the ShoWest in Las Vegas, Nev.; Panama City Beach, Fla.; the New York Auto Show; the Chicago Cubs opening game; and the NCAA Men’s Final Four in Indianapolis.
The family adventure-comedy “RV” features an overworked executive, Bob Munro (Robin Williams), who persuades his wife and children to give up their Hawaiian vacation for some “family bonding” on a cross-country RV trip.
In addition to Williams, “RV” stars Jeff Daniels (“Dumb and Dumber”), Cheryl Hines (“Curb Your Enthusiasm”) and Kristin Chenoweth (“The Pink Panther”). The film is directed by Barry Sonnenfeld (“Men in Black”).
