Former Holiday RV Superstores Inc. executive Lee FitzGerald is looking to revive the Venture Out RV dealership brand with the opening of a location in Bakersfield, Calif., according to the Bakersfield Californian newspaper.
If FitzGerald is successful in getting local zoning approval, his Venture Out dealership would compete, along with other dealerships, against the Holiday RV Superstores’ dealership in Bakersfield, which operates under the Recreation USA brand name.
FitzGerald and his family owned and operated two Venture Out locations in Bakersfield and Rosedale, which they sold to Holiday RV Superstores in 1994. He eventually became president and CEO of Holiday RV Superstores-West.
However, Holiday RV Superstores founder Newt Kindlund sold his controlling stake in the company in 1999, so FitzGerald no longer is a Holiday RV Superstores executive.
Meanwhile, Holiday RV Superstores reported in a recent Securities & Exchange Commission filing it anticipated “closing on the sale of the store in Roseville, Calif., in September 2002.”
Holiday RV Superstores Chairman, President and CEO Marcus Lemonis was not immediately available for comment.
FitzGerald plans to open a Venture Out location in a building along Panama Lane in Bakersfield that formerly housed a home improvement store if he can get the required approvals from local government officials.
