Sunset Park and RV Inc., dba Sunset-RV, a Shipshewana, Ind., manufacturer founded last March, will launch production in February with a diminutive SunRay travel trailer to accompany its existing Cozy Traveler and Easy Traveler lines.
“We are looking to provide products for the changing market – smaller, lighter-weight RVs,” said partner Shane Frost. “Our units are designed to be pulled by 6-cylinder vehicles. We saw a big need there.”
Company executives include President Marlin Schmucker, formerly of Coachmen Industries Inc.’s Sportsman division, and Vice President Merle Schmucker, who previously was with Jayco Inc. Sunset’s 2009 products were shown off-site during the 2008 Louisville Show.
Frost said the company took cues from older trailers on display at the RV/MH Museum in Elkhart, Ind., to design the SunRay, which will have an $11,029 base MSRP.
The 6 1/2-foot wide wood-and-aluminum SunRay will be available in 14- and 18-foot floorplans with roofs that slope six inches downward front to back.
The company’s first five sales were on e-bay but it now has a 32-dealer network, Frost said.
Cozy Traveler is available in one 14-foot floorplan with a dry weight of 1,960 pounds, while Easy Traveler offers two 18-foot floorplans with dry weights of 2,460 pounds. All floorplans in the two wood-and-aluminum lines feature a bunk bed over a booth dinette.
“The major difference between the two is a longer dinette, larger bath and more cabinet space,” Frost said. “The key in the designs was not only to make it lighter, but to make it easy for first-timers to use. They are simple to hookup, pull and park. We are going for price and weight.
MSRP for the Easy Traveler is $9,999; $12,999 for the Cozy Traveler.
