Fleetwood Enterprises Inc. went outside of the RV and manufactured housing industries to name Edward B. Caudill, a 59-year-old executive from truck manufacturer PACCAR, to be its new president and CEO.
Caudill will begin work at Fleetwood in mid-August.
PACCAR, based in Bellevue, Wash., builds medium- and heavy-duty trucks under the Kenworth, Peterbilt, DAF, Leyland and Foden brand names.
Caudill has been a vice president of PACCAR since 1996 and the general manager of its Kenworth subsidiary since 1997.
Earlier, Caudill was vice president-purchasing and general manager of the aftermarket Parts and Medium Duty Truck divisions at PACCAR for nine years.
He has a total of 25 years of experience in manufacturing and distribution.
Before joining PACCAR, Caudill spent most of his career in sales and manufacturing management at Rockwell International and in manufacturing and quality management at Eaton Corp.
Caudill was hired because Kenworth is about the same size as Fleetwood, the largest RV manufacturer and one of the largest manufactured home producers, and because Kenworth trucks are sold through several hundred independent dealers, as is the case with Fleetwood’s RVs and manufactured homes, said David Engelman who served as Fleetwood’s interim president and CEO since February.
“He (Caudill) has demonstrated ability to think and execute strategically and to navigate through operating challenges,” Engelman said. “His knowledge of the manufacturing process of large durable consumer products and their distribution through independent dealers will be invaluable.”
