Fleetwood Enterprises Inc. anticipates re-opening its Riverside, Calif., motorhome plant “within the next week or two,” a company spokesman told The Press-Enterprise newspaper of Riverside, Calif.

The 500-employee factory was shut-down three weeks ago because slower-than-expected retail sales left Fleetwood dealers with excess supplies of model year 2000 units.

Fleetwood closed five other motorhome plants across the country, according to Paul Bingham, Fleetwood’s senior vice president-finance.

“Frankly, we just over-produced,” Bringham told The Press-Enterprise. “We didn’t see this (softening retial market) coming and we didn’t quite adjust soon enough.”
