Officials at Flying J Inc., the Brigham City, Utah-based owner of 126 truck plazas nationwide, have discarded the idea of setting aside facilities for overnight stays by RV users.

“We have drawn up some plans about what a campground would do for us, but at this point, we’ve decided not to do it,” said Brian Moser, Flying J’s director of merchandising. “That’s not to say that our opinion might change.”

Moser said the company would allow free overnight stays by RVers at its plazas, if there is room and if a RV user asks.

“That happens on a site-by-site basis,” Moser said. “We’ve tried to keep a line between being a fueling station for RVers and a place where they can stay overnight.”

Flying J’s free “Real Value (RV) Club” caters to RVers by providing a discount on fuel, a free dumping station and fueling islands designed to accommodate RVs. At some locations, Flying J offers RV washing, tire repair and limited roadside service.
