Returning to the Fairplex in Pomona, Calif., for the first time since 2008, the Family Motor Coach Association (FMCA) expects about 1,000 RV owners to attend its 91st Family Reunion and Motorhome Showcase that begins Thursday (March 26) and runs through Sunday.

”It’s really shaping up to be a nice event,” said FMCA Executive Director Jerry Yeatts. ”We have all the major manufacturers represented, and Pleasure-Way returned to us for the first time in seven years. That’s a signal that the economy is turning around.”

The 480-acre Fairplex, home of the Los Angeles County Fair, is considered one of the premier RV show and rally venues on the West Coast. It has undergone major renovations since the Cincinnati-based motorhome owners association last visited, including the addition of an 85,000-square-foot conference center and the removal of some old barns and buildings.

”That has allowed us the ability for families and suppliers to be closer in,” said Yeatts.

The conference center will house more than 120 seminars covering a broad array of motorhome-lifestyle topics. Indoor exhibition halls also will feature more than 300 booths featuring RV-related products and services.

With temperatures predicted to reach the 90s by Thursday, the conference center also will be the site of pickleball games on climate-controlled indoor courts. Those attending the event titled ”California Gold” also will be able to participate in group tours of local sites and attractions.

Hosting an event in Southern California has a different feel to it, Yeatts said. ”The folks in Southern California are a little bit laid back. They enjoy sleeping in a little more and they enjoy a little bit more comfortable living. It’s all positive, whether you’re looking at an event in the Northwest or Southeast.”

Among California dealers that will be displaying motorcoaches in Pomona are Paul Evert’s RV Country, Giant RV Super Store, Mike Thompson RV Super Stores, Holland RV Centers and Outlaw Conversions/Emerald Luxury Coaches. Along with Pleasure-Way, brands being shown include American Coach, Fleetwood, Monaco, Holiday Rambler, Newmar, Tiffin, Roadtrek, Entegra, Jayco and Winnebago.

FMCA’s next major rally, the 92nd Family Reunion and Motorhome Showcase, will be July 29 to Aug. 1 at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison, Wis.
