Ford Motor Co. recently reduced production of its Excursion SUV by 25%, or 17,000 units per year.
The Excursion uses many of the same components as Ford’s motorhome chassis. However, Ford officials were not immediately available to say whether the cutback in Excursion production will mean more motorhome chassis will become available to RV industry OEMs.
Ford motorhome chassis supplies were scarce early this year and industry sources said supplies of Ford Class A chassis continue to be tight. Meanwhile, the Ford Class C chassis supply situation is expected to improve during June and July, the sources said.
The Ford SuperDuty F-Series full-size pickup also uses many of the components as the Excursion, and Ford said it will increase F-Series truck production 9%, or 35,000 units a year.
