Foremost Insurance Group, Grand Rapids, Mich., is offering motorhome, travel trailer and fifth-wheel owners a free “For Sale by Owner” kit to help them sell their rigs.
The kit is available online at Foremost’s website, www.foremost.com. Users then can go to the RV-related pages and look under “Services and Information.”
The kit provides the following printable sales tools:
• A bill of sale that can be used to document the agreed upon purchase price and other conditions of the sale.
• An RV specifications sheet that can be filled out and placed in the rig’s window to give potential buyers an at-a-glance look at the unit’s features.
• A “For Sale” sign that can be displayed in the rig’s window.
That kit also includes an RV valuation article that can be used to set a reasonable selling price, along with sales tips and tips on how to get an RV sale-ready.
There also is a payment calculator that can be used to show the potential buyer’s monthly payment amount.
A study of the RV market conducted by the University of Michigan last year found that 54% of all RV owners bought a used rig from the prior owner. The Michigan study also found that 14% of all RV owners bought their used rig from an RV dealer and the remaining 32% bought a new RV from a dealer.
Several RV manufacturers want their dealers to inventory more late-model used RVs to attract customers to their lots, where the manufacturers believe the dealers could then convince the customers to buy a new rig, because it has more up-to-date and improved features.
