Forest River Inc.’s Work and Play division has introduced an unusual 18-foot Eagle Nest toy hauler floorplan that features an 8 foot by 8 foot canvas rooftop room. “It can be used as a bedroom or an observation deck,” said Curt Smith, Work and Play general manager. A section of the Work and Play Eagle Nest’s fiberglass roof raises automatically via four electric motors to create the room which is outfitted with a queen-size convertible sofa and air conditioning along with electric and cable connections. Access is provided by a ladder through a rooftop hatch from the garage area. The unit’s canvas sidewalls – stored for travel in a 15-inch deep well below the roof line – create a room with 6-foot 4-inch headroom. They can be rolled up to open the deck, which is equipped with safety rails to the outside. The interior, with furniture that folds up against the wall, features a cargo area 11 feet deep.
