Forest River Inc. is expanding its Oregon facilities to include the former Champion Homes site in Silverton. The Statesman Journal reported that the expansion will expand Forest River’s manufacturing capacity to build its cargo trailer lines.

Operating multiple manufacturing facilities throughout the Midwest and West Coast, Forest River is one of America’s leading manufacturers of recreational vehicles, pontoon boats, cargo trailers and buses.

Nick Harville, business retention and expansion manager at Strategic Economic Development Corp., the local economic development agency, has spent a lot of time to find the right match for this facility.

“I have worked with Forest River in two other communities… These things move slowly and this took months,” Harville said. “And with the property having been empty for so many years and beginning to fall into disrepair I am glad an outstanding company like Forest River is acquiring it and breathing new life and vitality into the facility.”

The company operates a similar operation in Independence, and general manager Josh Parker said business is so good they have had to expand to an additional location.

“We are very excited about the opportunity to set up shop in Silverton,” Parker said. “We have been looking in the local area in the last couple years.”
