Retail sales of towable RV units built by Forest River Inc. of Goshen, Ind., were up sharply during the first half of this year, according to Statistical Surveys Inc., an independent market research firm.

The privately held Forest River saw its retail sales increase 19.8% to 13,257 units. As a result, Forest River edged out Thor for the No. 2 position among the builders of towable RVs.

Retail sales of Thor towables declined 0.4% during the first half of this year to 13,253 units.

Fleetwood, the leading producer of towable RVs, saw its retail sales increase 1.8% during the first half of this year to 28,206 units.

Jayco, the No. 4 producer, saw its retail sales decline 0.2% to 11,043 units and Coachmen, the No. 5 builder, saw its retail sales decline 1% to 7,898 units.

Now close behind Coachmen in the No. 6 position is Keystone, which saw its retail sales increase 30.7% during the first half of this year to 7,097 units.
