Former Keystone RV Co. factory reps Glenn Guidry and Rob Reid have decided to go into retailing and they will open a dealership in Elkhart, Ind., called Great Lakes RV Center, on Feb. 4.
Also in partnership with Guidry and Reid is Rich Bosma, owner of Timber View RV Center Inc., a towables dealership in Mokena, Ill., Guidry added.
Even though it is not officially open, Great Lakes RV already has tentatively sold three units. The dealership accepted deposits from three prospective buyers during the RV Camping Show & Sale in nearby South Bend, Ind., which concluded on Sunday (Jan. 13), Guidry said.
Initially, Great Lakes RV will be a towables dealer stocking Keystone’s Hornet-, Laredo- and Everest-brand units, along with Forest River Inc.’s Flagstaff-brand units.
Guidry and Reid left Keystone, now a unit of Thor Industries Inc., on good terms, as indicated by the fact their dealership will inventory three Keystone brands. “We had a good relationship (with Keystone) and it’s moved into a new phase,” Guidry said.
Great Lakes RV is filling a void created by the closure of three dealerships in the Elkhart market during the industry downturn of 2001. But Guidry and Reid believe this is the ideal time to open a new dealership because the industry is about to enter the upward portion of its cycle.
