Atheltes-Attending-RV-Show-2014-300x244After former Dodgers and Padres star Steve Garvey throws the first ceremonial pitch to officially start the 62nd Annual California RV Show at 10 a.m. on Oct. 10, he and other popular athletes of the past will be making guest appearances during the 10-day event at the Fairplex in Pomona.

According to a press release, baseball fans will remember Garvey as the “Iron Man” for setting the National League consecutive games played record with 1,207 straight appearances. During his illustrious career, he was a 10-time All-Star and 1974 National League MVP.

From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Oct. 11, guests can meet Garvey’s former teammate Ron Cey, who played alongside Garvey in Dodger Blue on one of baseball’s most enduring infield. Nicknamed “The Penguin” by legendary manager Tommy Lasorda because of his running style, Cey helped the Dodgers win numerous National League pennants, before moving on to the Chicago Cubs.

Former Angels pitching ace Chuck Finley will also be on hand at the show from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. that Saturday to meet fans. Finley, a left-hander, won more than 15 games six times for the Anaheim team.

Another “Ironman” set to greet basketball fans at the show on Oct. 19, from noon until 2 p.m. is former Laker A.C. Green. The retired star is remembered for playing in more consecutive games than any other NBA or ABA player, and for being a member of a dream squad led by Magic Johnson, James Worthy and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Also on hand that Sunday, from 2-4 p.m., will be another famed left-hander, former Padres star Randy Jones. His former opponents remember this All-Star player for his sinker and the quantity of ground-ball outs he induced from them.

The California RV Show, hosted by the Recreation Vehicle Industry Association (RVIA), will feature more than 1,200 RVs, 35 manufacturers, and 15 dealers, plus six celebrities, food and educational seminars, including the informative RV factory showcase. The show provides a free trolley and also offers mobility scooters, wheelchairs and kids wagons for rent at the entrance.

The show runs from Oct. 10-19 at the Fairplex in Pomona, Gate 9. Show hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. Adult admission is $10; kids 17 and under are free. Active military personnel are free with ID.
