Visits to national parks hit record numbers this year during the Centennial of the National Park Service. However, overnight stays in national parks – particularly at campsites – are down.
According to a press release, the American Recreation Coalition (ARC) recently convened a group of visionary recreation leaders at Grand Teton National Park to discuss taking on this challenge during a session held in conjunction with the Annual Meeting of the Western Governors’ Association in June.
Longtime RV industry leader Mike Schneider, former CEO of Affinity Group Inc., who co-moderated the energetic discussion, reported on some of the group’s recommendations in an article for Woodall’s Campground Management addressing issues like visitor preferences, technology, funding and transportation.
