Thor Industries Inc. subsidiary Four Winds has received a $9 million order from rental firm Cruise America and Thor’s transit bus operations, which have experienced lower sales and earnings recently, also received $21 million worth of new orders recently.
The $9 million order from Cruise America is for Elkhart, Ind.-based Four Winds to build 205 Class C motorhomes for the RV rental firm.
As a result of the new order, Four Winds has sold 580 units to Cruise America so far this year, up 21% from the 480 units sold last year.
Meanwhile, Thor subsidiary El Dorado National transit bus in California received an order for 42 Axess low-floor buses from ShuttlePort Florida LLC, which will use the recently introduced 40-foot buses at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.
Thor subdiary Champion Bus received an order for 69 buses from Air Serv Corp. and an order for 28 buses from the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority.
Although Thor, a New York Stock Exchange-listed company, reported sharply higher RV sales and earnings during the nine months ended April 30, its bus sales revenue declined 25% during the nine-month period to $161.6 million and its bus-related pre-tax earnings fell 26% to $8.5 million during the first nine months of the parent company’s fiscal year 2003.
