Joe Garfien, founder of Chicago, Ill.-based U.S. Gear Corp., passed away on Thursday (May 5).
Garfien, who immigrated to the U.S. from his native Austria when he was 16, had over 70 years experience in the gear manufacturing industry.
Garfien founded U.S. Gear in 1963 and the firm remains a family-owned and operated business.
Serving a globalwide clientele, U.S. Gear and its subsiduary, Heat Treat Corp. of America, supply the recreational vehicle and automotive industries with transmissions and other performance enhancement products.
The funeral will be held this afternoon and the U.S. Gear offices will be closed for the day.
Family members ask in lieu of flowers, donations be made to a favorite charity.
