The Georgie Boy subsidiary of Coachmen Industries received $25 million-worth of orders during its first-ever national dealer meeting earlier this summer, resulting in Georgie Boy having its biggest order backlog since 1999, according to Pat Terveer, president of the division.
Georgie Boy builds gas and diesel engine Class A motorhomes and its retail sales during the first five months of this year were up 14% when compared with the same period a year-earlier, Terveer said. Meanwhile, Class A retail sales industrywide were up 4.3% during the first five months of this year, when compared with the same period a year earlier, according to Statistical Surveys Inc., an independent market research firm.
Additionally, Terveer said Georgie Boy’s factory-to-dealer shipments were up 6.2% during the January-through-May period, while the Recreation Vehicle Industry Association (RVIA) reports Class A shipments, industrywide, were up only 0.6% during the same period.
“We went into it (the dealer seminar in Tucson, Ariz., during late June) feeling pretty good that the product would be very well accepted,” Terveer said. “But everyone thought the new models were even better than we thought. It was a fantastic meeting.”
Perhaps the highlight of the gathering was the introduction of the 2004 triple slide gas Cruise Master 3755TS featuring the “bath-and-a-half” floorplan that has a shower, wardrobe and sink in the rear bedroom and a toilet and sink near the middle of the coach, creating more bathroom space and allowing for more privacy and dressing space in the bedroom.
“With entry-level prices for diesel units moving higher over the past few years, this new Cruise Master neatly fills the gap between highline gas models and entry-level diesels,” Terveer said.
