Changes are underway as Camping World Inc. transforms the former Tom Raper RVs dealership in Richmond, Ind., into one of its signature superstores. According to a report by the Palladium-Item, one of the biggest changes already has been made, with the addition of a 130-foot flag pole bearing an 40- by 80-foot American flag.

“It’s beautiful,” said local general manager Mike Halcomb. “It’s gorgeous the way it moves.”

Tom Raper RVs was known for its jingle and its billboards. Halcomb expects Richmond’s Camping World to become recognizable by its gigantic flag. Special lighting for the flag is in the plans. Similar flags have been, or are being, installed at many of Camping World’s more than 100 locations across the country.

In late March, Camping World finalized its purchase of three regional Tom Raper RVs locations — in Richmond; in Fairfield, Ohio, near Cincinnati; and in London, Ohio, near Columbus.

At that time, Camping World officials said the company had plans to to renovate the Tom Raper locations to include additional service bays, a Camping World retail store and state-of-the-art collision centers.

New signs and new paint already are evident. Halcomb said that during the coming weeks, customers and community members will see added changes to the property.
