Good Sam VIP Insurance – an exclusive vehicle insurance program offered to Good Sam RV Club members through GMAC Insurance – has teamed with the Good Sam Club, General Motors, GMAC Insurance and National RV Inc. in an effort to improve RV driving safety.
They have developed a comprehensive RV Safe Driving Course that will be unveiled at the Good Sam VIP Safety Rally Jan. 28-29 in Palm Springs, Calif.
National RV, a subsidiary of National RV Holdings Inc., Perris, Calif., will provide Class A motorhomes, fifth-wheels and travel trailers that people enrolled in the two-day course will use during the hands-on driving portion of the program.
GM instructors will teach proper skid recovery procedures, off-road recovery techniques, breaking and accident avoidance. RV-specific driving exercises will include 90-degree right and left turns, parallel parking and backing up.
There also will be classroom instruction about handling RV fires and fire extinguishers, weight distribution, tire safety and proper following distances.
Additionally, a simulator will be used to give participants an opportunity to test their skills driving an RV around more than 215 obstacles during a virtual 12-minute trip.
The Good Sam Club is a unit of Affinity Group Inc., which also is the parent of TL Enterprises Inc., publisher of RV Business and RVBUSINESS.COM.
