The Good Sam Club is testing a new program that could save full-time RVers $50 a month and, at the same time, help generate off-season business for the campgrounds they visit.
It’s part of a tiered membership concept that the Good Sam Club is developing to better meet the lifestyle needs of its diverse membership base, according to Sue Bray, executive director.
Good Sam is a subsidiary of Affinity Group Inc. (AGI), which also is the parent of TL Enterprises Inc., publisher of RV Business and RVBUSINESS.COM.
Because Good Sam has close to one million members, many of them full-timers, Bray says it makes sense to customize a Good Sam membership program to suit their needs. Good Sam hopes to attract about 1,000 members to its Full Timers’ Division during the initial test phase this year.
While standard Good Sam Club membership dues are $25 annually and include 10% discounts at 1,600 parks across the country, plus 10% discounts at hundreds of participating RV aftermarket retail centers, participating full-timers pay an additional $15 to receive the monthly discounts and other club benefits.
Also included is a full-timer newsletter and a subscription to Workamper magazine.
Campground operators pay nothing to benefit from the Good Sam full-timers’ program, but they do need to provide the $50-a-month discounts to Good Sam Club members for nine months of the year, leaving their peak seasons unaffected by the discounts.
Currently, 164 Good Sam parks, primarily in Sunbelt states, had agreed to knock $50 off their monthly rates for members of Good Sam Club’s new full-timers’ division, Bray said.
Next year, the Good Sam Club plans to launch a “Good Timers” program, which will operate like a frequent flier program, providing discounts for members who frequently participate in rallies and other Good Sam-sponsored events.
The Good Sam Club, www.goodsamclub.com, is believed to be the world’s largest RV owner’s organization with nearly one million member families. It offers its members a variety of services, including the Continued Service Plan, Emergency Road Service, RV financing and insurance, as well as member discounts to parks, campgrounds and RV events.
