Since early summer electronic billboards on tire maker Goodyear North America’s three airships have been featuring the Go RVing market expansion campaign’s “Pursue Your Passions. Go RVing,” followed by the Go RVing Internet website (www.gorving.com)
“We consider this a public service announcement,” said Kris Fettig, Goodyear’s RV industry account executive who also represents Goodyear on the industrywide Go RVing Coalition. “We run a lot of PSA’s on the side of the airships, and we don’t charge for or sell that space.”
Akron, Ohio-based Goodyear originated the practice of using blimps as promotional tools at outdoor sports and entertainment events.
Into the fall, the Go RVing message has been seen at such events as the U.S. Open tennis championships, NASCAR’s Brickyard 400, several PGA golf tournaments and more than a dozen college and NFL football games.
“We can help the industry get its message out to literally hundreds of thousands of people,” Fettig said.
Fettig said he got the idea to spread the “passions” slogan via the company’s blimps in June during RVIA Committee Week when he realized the succinctness of the message. “It fits perfectly on the airships,” he said.
On a larger scale, Fettig added, the in-kind contribution to Go RVing is a signal from Goodyear of its commitment to the RV industry.
“We want to see this industry grow and we want to grow with it by trying to get involved with more of the associations,” Fettig said. “We want to be as active in the industry as much as possible.”
