The American Recreation Coalition (ARC) has scheduled Great Outdoors Week celebrations and events again this year to coincide with the Recreation Vehicle Industry Association’s (RVIA) Committee Week in Washington, D.C.
Great Outdoors Week 2004 activities June 7-11 will include events hosted by more than 20 federal agencies and national organizations.
Here are some of the scheduled events:
• The new Outdoor Recreation Technology Task Force will meet on June 7 to hear a briefing on opportunities to enhance and manage recreation on public lands through technology. It will be followed by a reception hosted by the Department of Interior.
• A “Best Practices” awards ceremony is scheduled for June 8 to recognize the best projects funded by the Wallop-Breaux Act, which is intended to enhance the public’s access to the nation’s public waters for anglers and boaters. The ceremony will be hosted by ARC and the Coalition for Recreational Trails.
• ARC’s Legends Awards will be presented on June 9 along with a briefing by agency leaders on the coordination of federal recreation programs.
• The Take Pride in America program that encourages volunteerism on public lands also will be honored on June 10 along with a showcasing of the Wonderful Outdoor World program that introduces urban youth to the Great Outdoors.
• A VIP-led walk on the National Mall will begin at the U.S. Department of Agriculture at 8 a.m. on June 11.
RVIA members will be provided shuttle service to Great Outdoors 2004 activities from the Willard Intercontinental Hotel, where the Committee Week meetings will take place.
