Because of a sharp increase in demand for Gulf Stream Coach Inc.’s towable products, the Nappanee, Ind. company is expanding its lamination facilities by more than 18%, bringing the total lamination support divisions to more than 120,000 square feet of manufacturing area.
The new lamination facility will be operational before March 31, the company announced.
The expanded facility will house an automated urethane adhesive bead applicator, bringing the company’s total bead applicator equipment operations to three. In 2002, Gulf Stream’s lamination support divisions produced more than 5 million square feet of laminated components.
Liquid urethane bead applicator technology offers unprecedented bonding characteristics not seen with other adhesives available in the market today, according to Gulf Stream. With greater flexibility in the manufacturing processes, Gulf Stream expects to see increased output while insuring the greatest degree of bonding in the laminated composites utilized in RV structures.
In addition, the new facility will greatly enhance the “lean manufacturing” principles initiated within the Gulf Stream organization a few years ago. The new lamination support division will decrease the amount of time spent in material handling and finished goods delivery time to the assembly divisions because the lamination support division will be located very near these assembly divisions.
