TriMas Corp. is moving the plastics fabricating process at its Cequent Towing Products business unit from Elkhart, Ind., to nearby Goshen.
The towing product division is part of the Cequent Transportation Accessories operating group of Trimas.
The transition will begin immediately and is expected to be completed by Aug. 1. It will affect approximately 12 employees.
“Redundancy and excess manufacturing capacity, coupled with the opportunity to maximize the manufacturing space available in the Goshen facility, prompted this decision,” said Edward Schwartz, Cequent group president.
In addition, Cequent Transportation Accessories Group is closing down operations at its electrical products plant in Albion, Ind.
The company expects to close the facility by the end of September 2005. Products currently assembled in Albion will be transferred to Cequent facilities located in Tekonsha, Mich., and Reynosa, Mexico. The closure will impact approximately 60 employees.
Plymouth, Mich.-based Cequent is a manufacturer of a broad range of accessories for recreational vehicles, light trucks, sport utility vehicles, passenger cars and trailers. Brand names include Draw-Tite, Reese, Fulton, Wesbar, Bull Dog, Hidden Hitch and Tekonsha.
