In a drive to increase its campground membership and exposure among the camping public, Best Holiday Trav-L-Parks recently completed a three-month TV advertising campaign on No Speed Limit, an auto-racing program produced by the Empire Sports Network (ESN).
“The commercials tripled our website hits (at www.bestholiday.org),” said Executive Director Donn Ianuzi, who was hired in July by Best Holiday, a not-for-profit membership association that has experienced declining membership in recent years.  
Ianuzi is owner of Talent House Advertising, Vestal, N.Y., which provides advertising for 900 campgrounds in brochures and highway camping maps.
The association has 36 resort and campground members – up from 30 in 2003 – a majority of which are located in East Coast, Midwest and Pacific Northwest states.
Ianuzi said the 30-second commercial and participation in a travel-related half-hour ESN program expected to go into production this summer are primarily aimed at increasing Best Holiday’s visibility among the camping public and adding to its roster of member parks.
“We are trying to get the name ‘Best Holiday” out there to the public,” he said. “We are appealing to campers that want clean bathrooms, nice looking lawns and top-grade facilities.”
The commercials shown during No Speed Limit’ were telecast by DirectTV and DishNetwork satellite systems and Adelphia and Time-Warner cable outlets and seen by 2 million viewers a week between January and the end of March, according to Ianuzi.
He said the TV commercial was placed in No Speed Limit because of the number of RVers attending local and national auto races.
“More than half the people who attend auto races own RVs,” Ianuzi said.
The commercial, which will be telecast again starting in October and running through March 2005, promotes Best Holiday parks as being among the most highly rated by two of the major campground directories. Member parks are required to have an 8/8 rating in the Trailer Life Campgrounds, RV Parks and Services Directory and a 4/4 rating in Woodall’s North American Campground Directory.
After a $200 initiation fee, Best Holiday members pay $595 annual dues and are listed in 125,000 association directories distributed by members and available at tourist information centers. Members also are linked directly to Best Holiday’s website and receive advertising discounts in the Trailer Life and Woodall’s directories and Wheelers RV Resort and Campground Guide.
