Recreation Vehicle Industry Association (RVIA) President Dave Humphreys is the recipient of the 2001 Sheldon Coleman Great Outdoors Award, which is presented by the American Recreation Coalition (ARC).

Humphreys will receive the award on June 12 in Washington, D.C.

The award recognizes an individual who has demonstrated outstanding efforts to sustain and enhance America’s outdoor legacy.

Humphreys was selected because he has been a central player in national policy matters affecting recreation, travel and tourism for more than 20 years.

He has been the president of the RVIA, which represents RV manufacturers and suppliers, since 1979, and was the association’s outside legal counsel prior to that.

Humphreys was a leading force in the creation of ARC in 1979 and has served as its chairman.

The Coleman award is named for Sheldon Coleman (1901-88). He was the chairman, for many years, of The Coleman Co., manufacturer of camping equipment ranging from coolers to folding camper trailers.
