The RV Business Newsmakers of the Year for 2003 were named at Affinity Group Inc.’s annual party Wednesday (Dec. 3) night during the National RV Trade Show in Louisville.
The 41st annual trade show ended Thursday (Dec. 4)
The RV Business newsmakers of the year were:
• President George W. Bush for the impact of his foreign and domestic policies on the nation’s economy.
• Thor Industries Inc. Chairman and CEO Wade F.B. Thompson for expanding Thor’s leadership position in towable RVs and Thor’s growth in Class A motorhomes with the acquisition of Damon Motor Coach.
• The Richards Group advertising agency for its creative contributions to the successful industry-financed “Go RVing” national ad campaign.
• The Recreation Vehicle Dealers Association Education Foundation’s Learning Center for increasing the skill set of service technicians at dealerships around the country.
• Holiday Holdings LLC for forming a nationwide alliance of high-profile dealerships with the goal of upgrading consumers’ buying experiences.
• RV weight safety advocate John Anderson for his work informing consumers and the industry about the importance of matching the right tow vehicles with the various towable products.
• The senior management of Winnebago Industries for continuing the company’s growth in the motorhome sector and its efforts to maximize shareholder value.
• Retiring consumer columnist Bill Farlow for his years of commentary about the industry.
• Holiday Rambler Corp. founder Richard E. Klingler for his legacy of building quality towable and motorized products.
• The sport utility RV (SURV), the emerging category of travel trailers and fifth-wheels designed to help active families enjoy a vigorous outdoor motorsports lifestyle.
