Caribbean Bay Club LLC, North Venice, Fla., intends to open the first of 598 island-themed, luxury Class A motorhome sites early next year.
The development will be at the reconstructed site of the former Stay-N-Play RV Resort.
“We have high expectations to sell 100 lots a year,” said sales director Chuck Norrell. “We are taking off where other owner RV resorts are leaving off.”
Local home builder Jacque Cloutier purchased the 362-site Stay-N-Play 16 miles south of downtown Sarasota last year. The overnight park closed last Wednesday (April 30) so construction could begin on the new resort’s 174-site first phase, which will open in January and occupy 60 acres of the 407-acre resort.
Caribbean Bay Club, situated on a man-made, 200-acre spring-fed lake a half-mile east of Interstate 75, was annexed by the city of North Venice to accommodate the development in return for a $1,629-per-site fee for water service.
Each of four phases will have a theme based on one of four Caribbean islands – Trinidad, Jamaica, Antilles or Martinique. “The architecture, colors and shapes of buildings vary significantly from island to island,” Norrell said. The themes will be carried through common buildings and landscaping.
Each lot, some as large one-third acre, will be equipped with a 150-square-foot customizable outbuilding with the option of building a similar-sized gazebo. Lots sell for $150,000 to $300,000, depending on size and location. Monthly fees will be in the $200 range, Norrell said.
Although Caribbean has no age maximum on motorcoaches, there is a 30-foot minimum length limit.
The resort will feature a 16,000-square-foot clubhouse, a sand swimming beach, two restaurants and a 1,700-foot staffed spa and fitness center.
