Jayco Inc. now plans to begin production of Class A motorhomes next spring, probably in April, according to Bill Prinz, vice president/sales & marketing.

Originally, Jayco planned to enter the Class A segment late this year. Its goal was to introduce a Class A line during the national industry trade show in Louisville in late November.

However, the company, a leading towables manufacturer and Class C motorhome builder, is delaying its move into Class A’s because it will take longer than expected to complete its new motorhome assembly plant north of Middlebury, Ind., Prinz said.

The wholesale market for Class A’s softened recently, but Prinz said that was not the reason for the delay.

Jayco is considering entering both the gas and diesel engine segments of the Class A market, he added.
