Outgoing Jayco Inc. Marketing Director Sid Johnson thought he was simply headed to dinner Tuesday night (Mar. 25) at the Elcona Country Club on the east side of Elkhart, Ind., when he rounded the corner and – much to his actual surprise – was greeted by a room full of Jayco colleagues and lifelong business friends and associates who proceeded to toast Johnson during the evening’s cocktail reception upon his retirement this week. A 20-year Jayco employee and a former chairman of the Recreation Vehicle Industry Association’s (RVIA) Market Information Committee, Johnson is still known to many in the industry for his earlier tenure as vice president of marketing for Coachmen Industries Inc. “What always comes to my mind is the level of professionalism Sid brought to our organization way back when he started,” Jayco Chairman Wilbur Bontrager said in thanking Johnson for his years of service to the company. Jayco President & CEO Derald Bontrager told Johnson that the Middlebury, Ind.-based RV manufacturer was “blessed to have you on our team” for the last 20 years. “Your professionalism, your work ethic, your intuition to do the right thing – and your wit and humor – will be missed by us all,” said Bontrager. “It feels like we’re losing a family member, and I personally will miss your thoughtful input in delicate situations.” Already assuming most marketing responsibilities at Jayco is Chuck Lasley, a former Affinity Group Inc. sales executive who was recently promoted from a regional sales manager for Jayco’s motorized division to vice president of corporate marketing.
