Jayco, Inc., Middlebury Ind., has donated more than $38,000 to the American Red Cross Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund through a collection from employees and a matching donation by the company.
According to Derald Bontrager, Jayco president, the manufacturer challenged its nearly 1,500 workers that it would match every employee dollar donated to the relief effort during a ten-day period ending Sept. 19.
The employees gave a total of $19,354.35, which was then matched by the company to make the contribution to American Red Cross a total of $38,708.70.
The sum includes contributions from employees at the company’s Twin Falls, Idaho, towable facility.
In making the presentation, Bontrager said, “Just this past July, Jayco conducted a very successful annual dealer convention in New Orleans at the Louisiana Superdome and the Hyatt Regency Hotel.
“It was painful to see news accounts of the devastation and human sacrifice in the area that had played a prominent role in our company’s success this year. We’re gratified by the out-pouring of support and compassion that our employees have demonstrated.”
