A letter distributed Monday (April 28) to Jayco Inc. dealers and obtained by RVBUSINESS.com confirms that 42-year-old Kevin Combs, product director for Middlebury, Ind.-based Jayco Inc., died early Saturday morning.
Combs, who oversaw product design for Jayco’s toy hauler division, was killed in a car accident in South Bend. According to a report in the South Bend Tribune, police continue to investigate circumstances surrounding the incident.
Dave Eash, vice president of towable sales, noted in the letter:
“Kevin was a talented, respected and dynamic product designer. He had a bright personality and the love he had for his trade was contagious. He leaves behind a legacy of clever design elements that will continue to be implemented in the toy hauler division.
“We will miss the spark of excitement he brought to work each day. Please join us in keeping his children and the rest of his family in your thoughts and prayers.”
According to the obituary that appeared in this morning’s Tribune, Combs was born in South Bend and was a lifelong area resident. He graduated from Plymouth High School and earned a bachelor’s from Bethel College.
Combs was an avid golfer and a member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Plymouth. He was a loving and supportive father, attending all of his children’s social and extra-curricular activities and events.
Combs is survived by his daughter, Ashley K. Combs of South Bend; son, Zachary K. Combs of South Bend; father, David Combs of Harmony, Fla.; mother, Connie Combs of New Carlisle, Ind.; sister, Stephanie L. Kopczynski of New Carlisle; nieces, Tynder and Taylor Kopczynski; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services for Kevin will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday (May 1) in the Palmer Funeral Home – Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S. Michigan Street, South Bend. Rev. Steven Resner of Calvary Lutheran Church will officiate. Graveside services and burial will follow at Southlawn Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home as well as one hour prior to services on Thursday.
