Shields served in several capacities for the Recreation Vehicle Dealers Association (RVDA) while founding and serving as president of CalRVDA.

James Freeman  “Jim”  Shields, longtime resident of Stockton, Calif., aged 68, entered into Heaven on February 13, 2014 following a courageous battle with cancer.  A native of California, he was born November 22, 1945 in Reedley to late parents Gerald T. (Mary M.) Shields and raised in King City.  He is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Sherry; dedicated son Josef “Joey” (Ashlye) Shields of Rancho Murieta; daughter and devoted caregiver Gina (Matthew) Jones of Stockton; adoring grandchildren Haylee, Austin, Colton, and Blake; sister Metta (Walter) Gerber of Menlo Park and many nieces and nephews.  He was a caring, generous friend and mentor who will be greatly missed.

Jim was a business entrepreneur and president of Pan Pacific RV Centers, Inc., with multiple recreation vehicle dealerships in northern California.  His industry accomplishments include founder and past president of CalRVDA, past chairman of RVDA, recipient of the James B. Summers Award for outstanding achievement and recently named to the 2014 RV/MH Hall of Fame.

Above all, his greatest love was his family.  A cherished Papa to his grandchildren, he enjoyed spending time with them and attending their sporting games. Among his other favorites were fishing, sports, hotrods and pets Buddy and Duke.  Jim loved barbecuing for family, friends and for events at Lincoln Presbyterian Church in Stockton, where he was a member.  His favorite place was the family vacation home in Maui, where he spent  time relaxing in the Aloha spirit.

Visitation is scheduled at DeYoung Memorial Chapel in Stockton on Feb. 18  from 2 -6 p.m. Private graveside service will be held at Smith Mountain Cemetery, Dinuba. Family and friends are invited to attend the Celebration of Life service at Lincoln Presbyterian Church, 900 Douglas Road, Stockton, on March 1 at 10:30 a.m. with reception following service.
