The Kentucky RV Coalition met with state lawmakers this week, urging them to change a decades old sales tax rule that treats towable RVs differently than motorhomes, according to a report in the RV Dealers Association (RVDA) publication, RV Executive Today.
Under current state law, motorhomes are taxed as a passenger car and travel trailers are taxed like buying a tent, The law is confusing to customers, especially out-of-state customers, who could be taxed on their purchase in Kentucky as well as their home state.
A state House of Representatives committee passed the proposed change. If the bill becomes law, motorhomes and travel trailers will be taxed the same and out of state customers will not be faced with possible double taxation.
Meeting with lawmakers this week were James Bradley of Summit RV, Kentucky RVDA Delegate NeVelle Skaggs, Alexis Skaggs, and Justin Pryher of Skaggs RV.
