Ketelsen RV in Hiawatha, Iowa, a suburb of Cedar Rapids, has opened a new 14,000-square-foot dealership in the central Iowa community of De Soto, just west of Des Moines.

“We felt as though we had a lot of customers from the central part of the state where we could build a dealership where we could have a quicker turn around with parts and service,” said Vice President Jeremy Ketelsen.

The new facility opened in January and a grand opening was held last weekend (March 25-26).

The store sits on 10 acres along Interstate 80 and is some 140 miles from the headquarters store Ketelsen opened in Hiawatha in 1962.

Des Moines is Iowa’s largest city and Cedar Rapids is its second most populated.

Ketelsen’s new dealership, which currently employs 15 people, is being supervised by General Manager Ray Nietert, who has been with the company for 13 years.

The store has eight service bays and carries a full Line of K-Z towables and Lance travel trailers and truck campers. The Hiawatha headquarters store features the same lineup with the addition of Jayco towables.

Ketelsen said that the family-owned company’s traditional procedures developed over more than 50 years allowed the company to more easily complete make the expansion.

“The family is involved in every decision that we make on a daily basis,” Ketelsen said. “Modern communication allows us to keep in contact with the people in Des Moines and we’ve spent a lot of years developing our processes. That helped.”
