During October, its last month as an independent company, Keystone RV Co. grabbed the retail market share leadership position in the combined travel trailer/fifth-wheel category.
Citing Statistical Surveys Inc. data, Keystone, now a unit of Thor Industries Inc., accounted for 15.3% of the travel trailer/fifth-wheel market in October, passing Fleetwood, Forest River and its parent company, Thor.
However, during the first 10 months of 2001, Keystone was fourth in terms of retail market share in the combined travel trailer/fifth-wheel category with a 12.7% share.
Fleetwood was the leader in the travel trailer/fifth-wheel category after the first 10 months of 2001 with a 15.3% retail market share, followed by Forest River at 13.2% and Thor at 12.9%.
Although Keystone is only six years old, the company is the leader in fifth-wheels. Its Montana is the top-selling fifth-wheel brand and its Cougar climbed into the No. 2 position in October, passing Jayco’s Eagle, according to Cole Davis, Keystone’s CEO.
Montana had a 7.2% market share in October and 5.8% during the first 10 months of 2001, according to Statistical Surveys.
Cougar had a 5.8% market share in October and 4.3% during the first 10 months of 2001. Eagle had a 3.9% market share in October and 4.3% during the first 10 months of last year.
