Keystone RV Co. is offering rebates of between $500 and $1,500 to all retail customers who purchase a 2005 or 2006 Keystone travel trailer of fifth-wheel between Nov. 1 and the end of this year.
The nation’s largest towable manufacturer announced the “10th Anniversary Manufacturer’s Rebate Offer” to its dealer body by letter late last week. The company also is announcing the offer in a mass mailing to more than 120,000 owners of Keystone products and on its website.
“When we talk with our dealers, we had the sense our dealer body could use a shot in the arm, something to create additional lot traffic,” said Ron Fenech, CEO of the Goshen, Ind.-based Thor Industries Inc. subsidiary. “Aged inventory is not healthy inventory. That’s why we are focused on aged inventory for this program.”
This is the first time Keystone has ever offered a retail rebate in its 10-year history, Fenech said.
“This business is not about selling product to our dealers,” he said in a letter to dealers announcing the program. “It is all about selling product to the retail customer and that is what we are here to help you do.”
The rebates range between 2% and 5% off MSRP on all Keystone products.
The company said it achieved record sales in the fiscal year ending July 31. However, like other towable builders, Keystone has felt the retail slowdown at dealer lots and was looking for ways to move inventory in a soft market to make room for ’07 product.
Fenech offered no prediction how effective the rebate program will be or whether competitors will try to emulate Keystone’s lead.
“Who knows,” he said. “What I do know is we are an aggressive company and we have designs on an even greater market share. We see this as a real opportunity to take our company to an even higher level.”
