Keystone RV Co. believes the Laredo line, which was introduced Sunday during its dealer meeting, creates a new category of fifth-wheels.
The Laredo is a “mid-profile” unit that can be pulled by a heavy 1/2-ton or a light 3/4-ton pickup, said Bill Fenech, vice president and general manager of Keystone’s Elkhart Division.
“It’s for the buyer who’s looking for more than the conventional stick & tin,” Fenech said.
The laminated fiberglass unit has aluminum sidewall framing and full-pass through storage. The 27-foot model shown to dealers in South Bend, Ind., on Sunday featured a “full super-slide” and a galley slide. It was priced to retail at $24,000, Fenech said.
The flush floor superslide, which includes a sofa-sleeper and dinette, is directly opposite the kitchen slide.
The Laredo unit shown in South Bend weighs 8,900 pounds, but Fenech said the units without galley slides weigh in the “high-6,000 to low-7,000 pound range.”
There are four floorplans available and the Laredo comes in 25- or 27-foot lengths.
Several of the dealers who walked through the Laredo on Sunday said they believe it will be easy to sell to consumers.
