The Recreation Vehicle Industry Association (RVIA) honored Kim Orlando, founder and editor of TravelingMom.com, with the association’s Distinguished Achievement in RV Journalism Award during a Father’s Day Camping Weekend for the site’s “top mommy bloggers” at the Mystic KOA Holiday in June.
Orlando was first introduced to RV travel and camping when RVIA arranged a camping trip for her family in California that she recounted on her website and other publications. Since that trip, she has served as a spokesperson for a satellite media tour highlighting RV travel and seasonal camping that aired on nine national outlets and in 13 regional markets creating millions of consumer impressions.
In addition, she has featured Go RVing in her annual 101 Road Trip Tips bookezine, has assigned multiple RV stories to her writers, and hosted the Father’s Day Camping Weekend for eight of her top writers and their families.
TravelingMom.com is the largest family travel website in the country under Yahoo! Travel with a network of 64 vetted writers who represent every facet of family travelers.
“Kim considered herself to be ‘camping illiterate’ until we introduced her to the RV lifestyle. She is now a convert and an advocate, sharing her enthusiasm and knowledge with her network of writers, her audience of family travelers and other media outlets,” said RVIA’s Bill Baker, senior director of communications, in presenting the award. “In offering her authentic voice to families looking for a fun, healthy and flexible way to travel, Kim has helped boost the awareness of RV travel and camping to very important audience and is extremely deserving of this recognition.”
The Distinguished Achievement in RV Journalism Award recognizes journalists for exemplary coverage of the RV industry or RV travel before national audiences.
