A student from Michigan and one from Florida were named winners of Kindlund Family scholarships for the 2002-2003 academic year, according to the Recreation Vehicle Dealers Association (RVDA) Education Foundation.
The winners are Christopher Byrnes of Lainsburg, Mich., who will be a sophomore at Kettering University in Flint, Mich., and Travis Wilson of Clearwater, Fla., who will be a freshman at Florida State University in Tallahassee.
Both will receive $2,500 scholarships.
The award is named for Newt and Joanne Kindlund, founders of the Holiday RV Superstores Inc. dealership chain, which they sold during 1999. Newt Kindlund serves on the RVDA Education Foundation Board and the Kindlunds have contributed $270,000 to the foundation’s scholarship endowment.
The scholarship is for students interested in majoring in business, finance, economics or accounting who have a financial need and who are involved in the RV industry.
Byrnes is a business and manufacturing management major at Kettering and he currently works at Roseville RV Center in Chesterfield, Mich., which sponsored his scholarship application.
Wilson plans to major in marketing at Florida State and he has worked at numerous Florida RV Trade Association (FRVTA) retail shows. His application was sponsored by the FRVTA.
This is the third year for the Kindlund scholarship program.
