The camping industry – especially at Kampgrounds of America Inc. (KOA) – didn’t feel the same pain as the RV industry during the last recession.
In fact, North Americans continued to camp in record numbers at a time when many RV manufacturers closed their doors.
“The camping lifestyle is obviously something our campers are not going to be denied,” said KOA CEO Jim Rogers. “We’ve continued to see great growth in camping as the RV industry has rebounded. Now, it’s time to take advantage of all we’ve learned to sustain the future of both camping and RV sales.”
Rogers will share KOA’s 2013 results, provide details on many of KOA’s technological advances and be discussing emerging camping trends that should generate RV demand for years to come during his presentation at the RV Industry Power Breakfast Thursday, May 8 at the RV/Manufactured Housing Hall of Fame in Elkhart, Ind.
“Everything we are seeing points to a bright future for both camping and RV use,” Rogers said. “We know from RVIA’s research that 70 percent of today’s RVers plan to purchase another RV, and we also know that 54 percent of all campers are tenters, and many more are now using our KOA Cabins and Deluxe Cabins.
Nearly 25 million American households camp each year, but only between 9 to 10 million own RVs. That’s over 15 million annual campers who are all great potential customers for the RV industry.
“There are national programs in place to entice young people outdoors, emerging Baby Boomer demand, stable fuel prices and an improving overall economy,” Rogers said. “Elkhart is in for a very bright future.”
Rogers is among a slate of speakers for the RV Industry Town Hall Meeting which immediately follows the Power Breakfast May 8, which also includes several presenters from the Recreation Vehicle Industry Association (RVIA).
