Jack F. Krantz, founder of Adventureland Park and Resort, died Saturday (Jan. 7) at his home in Des Moines, Iowa. He was 76.
According to the Des Moines Register, Krantz started a home-improvement business as a young man before expanding into two home building companies.
In the early 1970s, he founded Adventureland. Located in Altoona, the family-owned site includes an amusement park, inn and a campground spread over 164 acres.
“I always enjoyed amusement parks,” Krantz told The Register in 2005, “and it was one thing Iowa did not have. I thought it would be a good thing to build in Iowa.”
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at St. Augustin Catholic Church and visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
