Investment firm manager and former professional football player Daniel D. “Danny” Villanueva has been appointed to the Fleetwood Enterprises Inc. Board of Directors, replacing Glenn Kummer, 69, who has retired.
Kummer joined Fleetwood in 1965 and rose to become the RV and manufactured housing company’s COO, executive vice president and CEO. He joined the Fleetwood board in 1983 and served as board chairman from 1998 until early 2002.
Kummer was the last senior level executive at Fleetwood from the era of company founder John Crean.
Crean left Fleetwood and sold his shares in the New York Stock Exchange-listed company during the late 1990s because he disagreed with the decision to enter manufactured home retailing.
Meanwhile, Villanueva is chairman of Bastion Capital Fund L.P., which specializes in management buy-outs of midsize companies. The fund recently sold Telemundo, the nation’s second-largest Spanish language TV network, to NBC.
Shortly after graduating from New Mexico State University, Villanueva was the place kicker for the National Football League’s Los Angeles Rams and Dallas Cowboys.
“We are proud to be associated with Danny, and we are excited about the knowledge and the contacts that he is willing to share with Fleetwood,” said Ed Caudill, Fleetwood’s president and CEO. “I’d also like to thank Glenn for his many contributions to building this company. His influence on Fleetwood, as well as on both our industries through his involvement in industry trade organizations has been immeasurable.”
