La Mesa RV Center, with nine dealership locations nationwide, challenged all of its employees to help raise donations for the American Red Cross to aid in the Hurricane Katrina relief efforts.
According to a press release, the owners of the company, headquartered in San Diego, pledged to match dollar for dollar all funds raised by employees over a one month time span, up to $10,000.
Each La Mesa RV dealership devised, implemented and held their own fund-raising efforts, including some unusual promotions.
La Mesa said a raffle was held for a bear carved out of a log crafted by San Bernardino, Calif., employee Susan Koppes.
And Steve Condon, salesman at the San Diego store, participated in a three-mile ocean swim race, raising over $700 per mile.
At the end of the month, over $8,190 was raised by the employees which was matched by the owners of the company for a total donation of $16,385 being sent to the Red Cross.
