RV dealerships typically are located along highway frontage to provide easy access, but La Mesa RV Center recently opened a new location in a shopping center in Modesto, Calif., according to The Modesto Bee newspaper.

The new La Mesa dealership opened May 9 in the 123,000-square-foot Costco building at 2200 Plaza Parkway in the Plaza Parkway shopping center, the newspaper reports.

“It’s off the beaten path a bit,” admits Steve Russo, manager of the location.

However, summers in the San Joaquin Valley east of San Francisco can be very hot, and Russo said, “Having a huge indoor showroom on a hot summer day will be nice.”

After interior remodeling is completed, the La Mesa dealership in Modesto will inventory about 100 units indoors and another 100 outside.

La Mesa’s Modesto location also will have a complete parts department and service area.

It inventories Beaver, Safari, Allegro, McKenzie, Itasca and Harney Coach units.

Modesto is the eighth La Mesa RV location. The other La Mesa stores are in Davis, Santa Rosa, San Diego and Action, Calif., and Mesa, Tucson and Yuma, Ariz.

At least one other tenant of the shopping center is glad to have an RV dealership as a neighbor. The owner of International Golf of Modesto feels the La Mesa dealership will draw more middle- and upper-income shoppers to the mall, which would expand his pool of potential customers, according to the newspaper.
