Van and truck converter LA West Inc., Lagrange, Ind., has acquired d’Elegant Inc., Schoolcraft, Mich., an exclusive converter of Ford Motor Co. vans and F-series trucks, according to the Goshen (Ind.) News.
Terms of the transaction were not revealed. D’Elegant’s operations have been moved to Lagrange, which is about 30 miles south of Schoolcraft, a suburb of Kalamazoo.
“With so many parallels in our business practices and philosophies, this strategic business move is consistent with our long-term growth plans,” said Vern Kauffman, LA West’s president.
“D’Elegant has significant market penetration in the Midwest that will complement the national marketing efforts of LA West,” Kauffman added.
LA West converts vans and trucks built by General Motors, DaimlerChrylser and Ford, so the d’Elegant acquisition will greatly expand its Ford market share. LA West will continue the d’Elegant brand name, which Kauffman believes will help gain market share in key urban areas.
The d’Elegant acquisition is the second major purchase by LA West in 30 months. In October 2000, LA West bought Choo Choo Customs Group of Chattanooga, Tenn. LA West continues to build and market the Choo Choo brand.
