Retail sales of travel trailers and fifth-wheels were up a little over 11% during June, according to Statistical Surveys Inc., an independent market research firm.
However, retail sales of folding campers declined 6.4% during June, although park model retail sales climbed 18.1% in the same month, Statistical Surveys added.
There were 15,374 travel trailers sold by dealers in the 48 states from which Statistical Surveys was able to gather data in June, which represented an 11.1% increase when compared with the 13,839 units retailed during June 2001.
Statistical Surveys was unable to gather data from New Hampshire during June and it does not collect retail sales figures from Hawaii.
During the first half of this year, travel trailer retail sales soared 18.1% higher in the 48 states to 64,326 units.
Fifth-wheel sales in the 48 states climbed 11.4% higher in June to 7,064 units and fifth-wheel retail was up 16.3% during the first half of this year to 32,579 units.
But folding camper retail went in the opposite direction. There were 5,829 folding campers sold by dealers in the 48 states in June, compared with 6,230 units sold to retail buyers during June 2001.
During the first half of this year, folding camper retail was down 2.3% to 21,862 units.
Park model retail sales in the 48 states totaled 672 units in June, compared with 569 units retailed during the same month a year earlier.
During the first half of this year, park model retail was up 5.7% to 2,635 units.
