Lippert Components Inc. plans to build a $19.17 million, 380,000-square-foot manufacturing plant in New Haven, Ind., at the former Signature Seating plant that is expected to create 140 new jobs by the end of 2019.
The Fort Wayne News Sentinel reported that in 2015 Lippert completed a $16 million deal to acquire Signature Seating, a maker of furniture for the marine industry. That operation, and its 185 employees, will be incorporated into the New Haven facility.
Elkhart-based Lippert paid the Allen County Redevelopment Commission $670,000 for 52 acres at 1400 Ryan Road late last year but released no details of its plans until filing a request for a tax abatement with the county’s Department of Planning Services — a request to be considered by New Haven City Council next week.
According to the application, the expansion will create about 70 production jobs and another 70 sewing positions, each paying an average of $15 per hour for a total additional annual payroll of about $4.4 million. Construction is expected to start in May, with completion in late 2019. The project includes $15.3 million in real estate improvements, $3.8 million in manufacturing equipment and $75,000 in information technology equipment.
